Welcome to Prince of Wales Amateur Boxing Club
The Club was formed in 1969, hence the name Prince of Wales as it was the investiture year of Prince Charles at Caernarfon Castle.
The Founders were Phillip Dunleavy, ex Lord Major of Cardiff, Tommy George, Eddie Sally, Ben Lago and Celo Lago. Other Trainers were Charlie Pearson, Omar Bodin and Heino Pika.
In later years Brian Ahmed, Wayne Bowden, Michael Davies, Vincent Algar and David Hughes took on the role of coaching the boxers. Wayne is still currently coaching alongside coaches Joseph Feal, Kevin Wilson, Paul Feal and Marvin Malik.
The gym has produced many champions in various competitions including: Welsh Schools, British Schools, British Youth, Welsh Youth, Welsh Senior and A.B.A Finalists.
The gym has also produced medalists from the Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Championships, Multi-nations Games, the Asian Games and European Championships.
The boxers have represented Great Britain and Welsh teams on many internationals.
In 1978 the club was the first in history to have 4 Welsh Senior Champions, a feat which has never been equalled. The club is also a 2 time winner of the Jim Driscoll Shield achieved by having the most Welsh schoolboy champions in the same year.
All the P.O.W Committee are ex boxers from the gym and have regular meetings.
The lads come from all over Cardiff to train at the famous gym.
